What Makes Great Teaching?

      I think great teaching involves care, love, acceptance, selflessness, and being attentive. One thing teachers don't get, is that the students will tell you what they need, if you allow them to. That's why I enjoyed the Empathy Limiting Mistake assignment. It allows the teacher to see how certain students think, feel, and how they should view things in the world. It also allows the teacher to be aware of what the students have gone through and how they felt about their mistake, or how someone else's mistake made them feel. I also feel like the 3 Minute Pause assignment, allows the students to be aware of their own actions. It lets them reflect on their own views, and view of others. It allows the students to understand the impact that certain events have had on others. My favorite assignment had to be Word it Out. Why Are Schools Still Segregated?

      Brown V. Board of education was the foundation of integrating schools in 1954, but today, we still see segregation. Why? Why are schools still segregated? I think the main reason schools are still segregated is because some of the staff and educators still believe in the segregation mindset. Sadly, this affects the students and how students of color are treated differently. Many educators will try to single out students of color, but will allow white students to get away with certain behavior. Also, when a lot of teachers make groups in the classroom, often times you'll see them group students by race. I have experienced this in school because I am a Hispanic woman, and many teachers would put me in a group with fellow Hispanics or someone of color.
